Black Friday 2008 doesn't look as good as I figured....

I thought that, with the economy in the shitter, everyone would be running fucking amazing sales to make up for low returns. I've not seen much that's too impressive. Granted, I'm in the market for smaller stuff, but I don't see jackshit that makes me think, "Crap! I've got to get in line to get this!"
Shit like Borat and assorted Motown CDs for $2.99 at Circuit City are about all I see that's even worth considering. Sad, eh?

Isn't everything going to be on clearance at Circuit City soon enough anyway?

Probably. But the one in Riverside is clearancing everything out now, and the clearance sales aren't nearly as good as their normal sales.

The sales could be better overall, but I am mainly going to get the kids some stuff. Target has decent prices on kids clothes, they need some now and for Christmas, so its not too bad. Also some DVD and shit as usual.

Of the ads I've seen the only thing I want is Best Buy exclusive Stone Temple Pilots cd.
Judging from the other cds listed it'll have only 6 songs, probably six of their greatest hits, but I'm hoping there'll be something new on it.

So that is a Best Buy exclusive? I saw it and was wondering since I'd never heard of it and couldn't find anything.

So you are liking my movie-film? Hah fahve! I only must ask that you not pay so little and find in your heart to buy for higher price. Profit from Borat movie-film are only income Kazakhstan get from world. $2.99, that is only enough to feed six hungry family. At full price, we give six families money to feed selves and pay prostitutes for service.

Its under the section "More exclusive music at a great price" so...yes.
I
may pick up the Weezer one also.
I also noticed Best Buy will have the single disc Batman Begins for $5.
They have the 2 disc for $7 this week.

Hey Borat, go back to 2007, where you belong.
I've never been big on Black Friday, but I might mosey on down to Target that Saturday (since they usually do those two-day sales) to look for cheap DVDs. A few years ago I got Spider-Man 2 and Batman Begins for like $3 each, so we'll see. I wonder when the Sarlacc and Christophsis sets will be out, but hopefully it won't be right on that day (last year's sets were out before that, at least at a few of my stores).

DB, I pulled up the ad scan, and I'm guessing they're all exclusive 6-song hits packages with little or no new stuff, or live performances, based on the titles for most of them. Here's what I can make out of the exclusive $5.99 CDs:
Linkin Park: Songs from the Underground
Counting Crows: Aural 6--Best of
Nelly: 6 Dirrrty Hits
The Cars: Classic Tracks
T.I.: King of Oneself--Best of
3 Doors Down: A Six Pack of Hits
Stone Temple Pilots: Buy This
Sixx A.M.: Live is Beautiful
Weezer: Six Hits
Disturbed: Indestructible in Germany
The Clash: Singles--Best of
Dave Matthews Band: Best of What's Around
Bad Company: The Hits
Linkin Park and STP have ambiguous titles, and Disturbed and Sixx A.M. (who?) indicate live tracks. Everything else sounds like compilations. It wouldn't hurt to look, but I doubt it's anything new. (Strangely, I would've probably bought another DMB live album at that price, and probably snagged a Disturbed hits compilation as long as it had "Land of Confusion" on it. Ah well.)
Also, Chinese Democracy is listed as a doorbuster, but it's the same price it'll be from Sunday (the release date) through Wednesday. Their site has free shipping on that and on the new Coldplay EP; I think I might order 'em and save on gas.

The only things that gave me hope with the STP release was the recent news they recorded a Christmas song not too long ago. The fans on the STP board I frequent are hoping it'll be on there.

Apparently I'm making a trip to the store on Tuesday and never ordering anything online from them. For some strange reason, it won't allow me to link my Reward Zone card, and keeps telling me the information doesn't match up, even though I'm looking at it and it does. And they can't respond for 24 hours. Insane. In order to get points, I guess I have to drive a fucking mile to the store. What a joke.

Looks like we'll be going to Best Buy on Black Friday. They have a Samsung 19" monitor for $129 (normally $229). My wife is also suddenly not happy with the quality of our printer, so we'll be getting a new one. We're debating between the HP and Cannon. Those two things are pretty much going to be our gifts to each other this year.
My old monitor and old computer will be going into the kid's room so I can uninstall Hello Kitty and other kids games off my computer.

This is off-subject, but if you want to see stupidity in action:
I wrote to them (from my bestbuy.com account):
I have been trying for half an hour with no success to enter my Reward Zone number. Every single time I try, I get a message that the information on my bestbuy.com account does not match the Reward Zone account information. I have, however, verified this information multiple times, and it appears to be EXACTLY the same on both accounts. My Reward Zone number is **********. I would really appreciate it if this issue could be corrected for the future.
It really should not be this hard to place a simple order and be credited for it.
They wrote back (and I boldfaced a "holy shit!" spelling error):

Santiago from Best Buy
I'm not going to even bother telling him that this related in no way to what I was talking about (the two accounts are separate, and I finally figured out my bestbuy.com account was set up six years ago at that zip code, and my Reward Zone account is less than a year old, but the zip codes aren't matching. I created a new bestbuy.com account and got around the whole mess). Nor am I going to tell him "I'm not retarded, but, since you obviously can't read, I'm not sure what the case is whit you."
Honestly, man, why do they bother having customer service people if they don't read a fucking thing you write and give you unrelated form letters every time you tell them there's an issue? iTunes (Apple) is the only company I've EVER had an issue with that has customer service reps who actually read what you say, write back to you, and walk you through the issue, even if it takes three or four subsequent e-mails.
