Civil War:Choosing Sides. A showcase of four upcoming series cleverly disguised as a Civil War tie-in.

The Mac Gargag/Venom story leading into the new Thunderbolts story arc was good. It piqued my interest enough to get that arc when it comes out.

I loved the art for the Iron Fist story. Very reminiscent of the Daredevil stuff. I love Brubaker so I'll definitely pick this up to see whats going down.

The Irredeemable Ant-Man story was sort of weak.

And I am really sad that the USAgent/ Omega Flight story wasn't up to my high standards. I like the Idea of USAgent. But noone seems to get past his one sided Jump How High mentality. He's both Captain America and the Anti Captain America. And this whole Liason thing is just dumb. Why does Canada's super team need an American Liason? Especially when the other people on the team aren't very Canadian. Beta Ray Bill? Julia "Arachne" Carpenter? Except Gaurdian, and he's been dead and back so many times I still get confused if he's James Hudson's clone or a technological construct or what....and we're not even sure if this new Guardian is Hudson. What would have been infinitely cooler is if, contrary to what you might think about John Walker, he actually sided with Captain America and told Tony Stark to stuff it and went to Cananda as an objector or something. That would be the Omega Flight I would like to see. Poh well, at least the original RedWhite and Black outfit is back. now give us a Marvel Legend bitches!

Superman/Batman Annual #1. Funny double reverse homage by Joe Kelly. Deadpool getting his ass kicked by Deathstroke over and over. bascially one big inside joke for comic fans. Also my last Superman/Batman issue not bought in quarter bins.

Captain America. Cool seing Red Skull and Dr. Doom lurking together. Uber villain-team ups dont happen often enough. Starting to get a little annoyed with all the sidetracking of stories due to the Civil War. Especially...

New Avengers. Ummmm....apparently if you didn't read Son of M, you wouldn't have a clue as to this entire little side war between the INHUMANS and Humanity being showcased next year in a mini-series called Silent War. What any of this has to do with Civil War or Sentry or New Avengers gets shoehorned into a story containing all three. Bleah. And Sentry retconned boned Crystal back in the day? YeahbuhWHA?

Heroes For Hire. Ugh. Cancel me quickly.

Exiles. The little monthly that could. Unfortunately, after they took all this time to create an entirely new team full on interesting, little used characters from various corners of the Marvel Multiverse like Longshot, Spider-Man 2099, Power Princess and AoA Sabretooth, Claremont is going to come in and shit everything into cancelledville. What a douche.

I bought a few as well: Planetary 26 being first and foremost. I actually think this book is "done" (though I find it really hard to know for sure, based on the fact that it only comes out once every 6 months or so). Apparently there is supposed to be either a #27 or Epilogue volume next year that will tie up at least one loose end.

New Avengers, Cap, X-Men and at least one other comic that I can't recall were purchased by me as well - but I have to unpack to see exactly what the other was. I'm actually worried I might have missed a book or 2, didn't see Hulk 100 on the shelf on my last visit to the Nanaimo store.

JLA is shaping up very nicely. I appreciate the irony that the "Big Three" are sitting in a cave deciding who's going to be on the team, while the team (Green Lantern, Black Canary, Red Arrow, etc) is actually out there getting things done. It will be a nice twist when the JLA asks the triumverate to join them after they spent the whole first arc basically doing nothing.

Hulk 100 I haven't read yet, but it's moving along nicely. Better than when Peter David was doing it a year ago.

Uncanny X-Men. I like Brubaker a bunch, but I hate it when writers cast off huge batches of characters in "shocking" death scenes. The fucking Shi'ar Imperial Guard have been around for decades and gone toe to toe with the X-Men on numerous occasions. And since it's implied they are the Empire's first and last line of defense, that they aren't slouches in the ass-kicking dept. Now they get their dead asses handed to them by one guy??? Its just shameful.

X-Men: Warsong. Tying up all of Morrison's loose ends. The Cukoos are Emma's cloned embryos? YeahbuhWHA???

What if.... is getting back to the good stuff. I like how this is become an annual event of six issues rather than diluting the concept with a monthly rag. This years ideas are very relevant, dealing with the major crossovers of the past couple years: Wolverine: Enemy of the State, Avengers Dissassembled, X-Men:Deadly Genesis, Spider-Man: The Other and Age of Apocalypse.

FF: The End was interesting and it does have pretty Alan Davis art and some cool futuristic variations of well known heroes, like a female kree Captain Marvel and a Human Torch sporting a cool Avengers costume. I'll keep it up for a bit longer.

The Punisher #41 - Man of Stone part 5. Although they couldn't keep coming back into Frank's life forever it is still a little sad to see a recurring character make thier exit (and probably another next month).

The Punisher X-Mas - My first non-Ennis Punisher title in ages and it's pretty good. A bonus: it's by Stuart Moore and C.P. Smith, the same creative team that brought us that awesome Wolverine #41.

Star Wars Legacy #6 - Probably the best issue so far. Some real story movement instead of the baby steps the first 5 issues (actually 4 issues - stupid fill-in) have given us.

Now I can comment on SOME of what I bought Wednesday ( dear lord it was over $50 worth of books)

52. Only flipped thru quickly. Nightwing meets Batwoman.

Batman. Filler issue from Ostrander and Mandrake. Okay. Nothing special. Morrison come back!

Flash. End of the first story arc. I think if you're going to reboot a series back to issue 1, you should really flip the book on its head. This one certainly didn't do that. is it because the character is so iconic and full of history you are bogged down by whats come before. it's like Bart is chasing his own Legend and letting Jay, Barry, Wally, etc overtake him. Do something drastic or what was the point?

Teen Titans. Dear lord why bring back Jericho? He had the best storyline where he died off. I like Deathstroke building an EVIL Titans team with Batgirl and others. Slade is the coolest villain ever. Ever.

Black Panther. Holy crow, this story is getting good. This is maybe the best of the Civil War crossovers. Provoking international political drama. I am concerned with Storm getting regulated to a supporting "wife" role after being the poster child for strong female characters for so long. And apparently I'm not the only one because the letters page commented on the very same thing. But this is a damn fine book.

Captain America. ANother Civil War tie in, but mostly focusing on the upcoming huge Red Skull storyline. And plenty of HYDRA ass kicking. Did I mention that comic's best writer Ed Brubaker does this one?

Immortal Iron Fist. Pretty good DD-esque art from Dave Aja. And did I mention Brubaker writing it? And also more HYDRA ass-kicking ( Bru loves the Hydra don't he?) A solid reboot for what was a fairly boring character. Definitely getting the first arc.

Friendly Neighborhood Spidey. Didn't read it yet and only got it for the Civil War/Unmasked crossover. Peter David is an opinionated douche.

Onslaught Reborn. ha ha. I got myself the Turner cover and my friend the Liefeld cover and he won't let me live it down. "Friends don't buy friends Liefeld covers when there is Turners covers availible" Normally i wouldn't buy Liefeld's shit, but I've been on this Heroe's Reborn kick because I got a bunch of Onslaught X-Men books leading up to the event, and all the Heroe's Reborn runs except the Avengers for really cheap recently. So I kinda have this urge to fill that large time gap in my collection in. And the money is going to Jeph Loeb's dead kid's thing. Which trumps Rob "Nutboot" leifeld not being able to evolve as an artist after 15+ fucking years. Putz.

On that note I also got the Marvel Universe:Onslaught reprint that came out yesterday. I was gonna look for the original, but now it's not a priority, see?

Punisher MAX. That fucking sucked. Was he finger banging her at the end? Or was the second thing just "Stay with me until the end..." Her little "AH." was like the last little O before expiring. Also, is it me or is this arc wrapping up a majority of the loose ends from previous arcs? Does this mean Punisher MAX is going bye bye? I hope not.

Punisher X-Mas. Moore and White do what they did with Wolverine #41. Tight solid stand alone story and gritty, moody artwork. Awesome.

More in a few.

Sensational Spidey. A rather emotional Mary Jane-centric tale about her coming to terms with her husbands recent outing. A good strong conversation between her and Susan Richards about loving heroes. Nice book. And a beautiful cover by Clayton Crain.

Ultimate Power. Ooooh..Bendis. OOOOH! Greg Land!!! And a buttload of splash pages as the Ultimates and Ultimate X-Men keep showing up to whup ass on the rebooted Squadron. It's almost too much for one measly issue to handle...

What If...? Wolverine's Enemy of the State story gets the what if treatment with very cool results. Seeing Captain America in that condition is...well...it will stick with me for awhile. And so is the final pages where Kitty Pryde does what needs to be done. Excellent story.

X-Men. Didn't read it yet.

Transformers: Escalation. Didn't read it yet, dammit.

I bought DD, X-Men, 2 Spidey books, Punisher and CW Frontline #8. I've read none of it. I'm going back to try and scoop a copy of Iron Fist #1, which I didn't see on the shelf on Wednesday. It better not be sold out. :x

Batman: Confidential 1. Wow. What the hell happened to Whilce Portacio? He used to be just shy of Lee and Silvestri and now he's more like Liefeld. I mean, I was sitting there trying to enjoy his art in this book and it kept bugging me and bugging me page after page. Then I would hit a decent panel and try to tell myself that it was really good, when really it just sucked alittle less than the rest of the issue. And the story was just so absurd. It was a year into Batman's career and he's fighting giant robots in Gotham City. WTF?? I don't even know if I want to give this book a chance to redeem itself with a second issue. There's too much good stuff out there for me to convince myself to keep buying this.

Justice Society 1. Okay. This was a damn fine book written by Geoff Johns. And Dale Eaglesham's art, while not my favorite, has that level of quality that I can enjoy the story without being distracted by the art. But I just can't jump into a fresh number one issue and not know the rules. Who are these people? What is their connection to each other? I feel like i'm coming into the book and i should have one of those baseball programs, but I don't and it's very confusing.

G.I.Joe. What a difference a couple issues makes. This book was getting on my nerves with its lack of forward progress. Then BAM! Cobra shows back up in force. (I hesitate to give away plot details, but it was very cool) and the team gets back on track as a TEAM. The next story arc has a lot of potential. And some glimpes of upcoming covers are intirguing to say the least. Well done DDP.

Hulk 101. Wow. Has it been a year already? Planet Hulk has been a very very cool story and knowing that it leads into WWHulk...cooler. Only two more issues.

Uncanny X-Men. I'll admit this story probably could have been wrapped in half the time its taking to tell it, and dammit, Billy Tan is just a schizo artist. Brilliant one panel and then obnoxiously bad the next. How hard is it to draw an circle with an x in the midle on somebody's costume? It's like a staple of the team. But then, theres some very cool subplotting and it looks like it will be resolved in a huge earth shattering, continuity changing ending. But who knows...?

I'm about 5 issues behind on Uncanny - with these 12 issues stints I just let them sit there and read a bunch together. I haven't picked up this past weeks books yet, but it looked (on Marvel.com anyhow) that Avengers was supposed to come out... I'll have to head down there today.

Batman. This seems like a story arc more suited to Detective, rather than the main Batbook. And I can't shake the idea that this is a filler story in Grant Morrison's run so I'm not digging it as much as maybe could be.

Ghost Rider 6. Ugh. Corben has the worst art ever. And this early in a books run, you can't afford to be having art this bad. i tolerated him on Punisher: The End because it kind of fit the story, but this just makes me cringe.

Exiles Annual 1. What an utter dissappointment and a waste of a good story idea. And have I ever mentioned how much I hate the Elders of the Universe? Fucking die already..

FF: The End. Alan Davis continues an interesting alt future tale. And I don't know if this has been brought up before, but he makes an interesting reason for why all the Inhumans wear costumes/masks. Hmm...cool.

Wolverine. The stand alone Christmas issue after Guggenheim's run but before Loeb takes over has Wolvie protecting "Paris Hilton" and, jj willbe happy to note, killing tons of people with no repercussions. Then he blows himself up on the last page. All in all a suck issue.

New X-Men. I seriously don't know why I buy this every month because it's good, but I just don't know why I buy it every month.

X-Men Phoenix Warsong. It's like a long torturous dismantling of Grant Morrison's run. Just kill the poor fucking Cukoos and be done with it.
