comics rock. talk about them here. now. or just go to the "corn" section and wack off. i'll understand. i'll just sit here and read my spider-man comics.
jjreason wrote:The change in DD is almost shocking. Totally different book. It hasn't been gritty crime since before Mark Waid. I'm giving it time for a few reasons - mainly because I always buy DD, but also The Hand showing up on the last page of issue 2.
As much as I enjoyed Samnee's style, I'm fucking LOVING Garney's style here. And the colors are magnificent and dark and moody. Charles Soule's background as an attorney is a plus also. Yeah, the villain is a little weak sauce, but I'd rather see new threats than having Kingpin for the 5000th time.
The SW character minis are just casual reading for me, I honestly couldn't tell you right now where any of them fall in terms of the movie timeline (obviously the intro to Poe's parents one is different). I just finished Chewie - more & more I'm thinking these really haven't been worth the money (Leia, Lando, Chewie) - they're all just throwaway stuff. I think there is supposed to be a C3PO one shot coming out that will address the red arm, which of course is about as exciting as my next trip to the washroom.
Totally agree on the SW minis. I stopped halfway thru Chewie's.

A whopping 23 books this week. 16 from the usual shop. And I got BTTF and a bunch of the $1 Deadpool books at the second shop. 3 First Issues.
Ant-Man 4. After hooking up with his FWB Beetle, Scott has to save his ex-GF Darla from a henchman The Voice that her boyfriend ordered off an app. And ruins his relationship with his daughter even more.
New Avengers 5. The Avengers of the future travel to the present to stop Billy from becoming the super villain Demiurge in the future. That Oscar Jiminez cover is badass. Why isn't he doing interiors somewhere?
Back to the Future 4. I didn't know this came out last week. Was supposed to be a mini that got upgraded to ongoing, but I'm stopping here. Two stories, one about Emmet building the Train. And the other about what happened right after he left Marty at the end of the first movie. Also how he's filthy rich because he went back to 1938 and bought a shit ton of Action Comics 1 and sells them mint in 2015 for $3M each.
Captain Marvel 1. First Issue. Carol is the head of the new space defense agency, code named Alpha Flight. Which has actual Flighters Puck, Aurora, and Sasquatch as support team members. Even though none of them have any astronaut qualifications and for some reasons Langowski pilots his ship AS Sasquatch. Stupid. It's a shame no one can get a focus on how Danvers should be in the Marvel Universe. Wasted potential.
Deadpool 6. Introducing Deadpol 2099, the daughter of Wade and Shiklah in the future. She's holding her dad hostage trying to find out what happened to her mother.
GIJoe ARAH 224. The penultimate issue of Cobra World Order. Cobra Commander cleans house and takes out Destro, Zartan, and everyone else in a double cross. I sincerely doubt they're actually gone, but it was a good issue.
Hercules 3. Herc fights some centaurs in Central Park.
Uncanny Inhumans 4. The Inhumans travel back to the time of Randac to stop Ahura from becoming Kang's warlord. Satisfying, if not great conclusion to an excellent opening arc. McNiven's last issue. Drawing four issues in one year is probably a personal best for him.
Ms. Marvel 3. Kamala has to team up with her crush's new girlfriend to save him and stop Hydra from ruining New Jersey. And Jersey ends up hating her anyway for being a sellout.
Poison Ivy 1. First Issue. A rare DC purchase because it had Clay Mann art. Someone kills Ivy's mentor using plant powers. Also has a gratuitous Harley Quinn guest appearance. But having Clay Mann draw Harley is not a bad thing.
Silver Surfer 1. First Issue. Norris and Dawn Greenwood return to Earth to visit her family. And stop an alien invasion stealing all our art and culture and stuff. Slott and Allred pick up right where they left off.
Squadron Supreme 3. Got it to round up to 16. The Squadron takes on the Uncanny Avengers because of Namor's murder. But then they get wisked off to Weirdworld.
Starbrand and Nightmask 2. SB and NM take on three villains possessed by some alien intelligence or something. And also college stuff.
StarLord 3. Peter earns his place on Yondu's ship.
Star Wars 15. Another flashback issue of Obi-Wan watching over young Luke from a distance. Until Owen shows up and tells Ben to GTFO.
Transformers 49. All the shit hits the fan as Galvatron makes his final move on Earth. Except Prime has other plans. Aww yeahhh...All Hail Optimus.
Uncanny X-Men 2. The Dark Riders are targeting mutant healers and they go after Elixir. Monet and Sabertooth try to stop them but they're too late. Which would be a bummer except Elixir was killed off in one of those post-Death of Wolvie minis that set up that stupid Wolverines ongoing. So editors aren't required to do any editing at Marvel anymore.
Also got Meaty Deadpool, Groovy Deadpool, Detective Deadpool, Uncanny Deadpool, Deadpool Origins, and The Wedding Of Deadpool for $1 each as part of the Marvel "True Believers" reprint initiative.
Hmmm. 12 books this week. And 6 more at the second shop. One First Issue. One Final Issue.
Atomic Robo Ring of Fire 5. Robo's first IDW mini concludes with Robo saving the world from the biomega island and the evil Ultra organization getting defunded.
Assassin's Creed 3,4. Two issues I got from the second store. This series doesn't really translate well from the video game to the comic page.
ANAD Avengers 4. We see the Avenger's new ghetto Jersey HQ, Jarvis gets roped into the team, and d-list villain Cyclone attacks Atlantic City. Captain America and Thor kiss but it's a 'meh' moment that's hyped because of the cover.
Carnage 4. Carnage betrays the cult the lured him underground to complete their ritual, and Eddie Brock releases the Toxin symbiote.
Daredevil 3. DD and Tenfingers thugs fight the Hand. Matt gets(unfairly) yelled at because his case fell apart and he gets assigned to Night Court. Cue the jokes.
Deadpool/Cable:Split Second 2. DP and Nate have to relive the same 90 seconds over and over until they get it right and nobody dies all Edge of Tomorrow/Groundhog Day style and then the time jumping foe Loop from the future reveals himself to be Wade from the future trying to fix the time loop by killing Cable.
All New Inhumans 3. Blah Blah North Korea Sin-Cong is mistreating Inhumans and experimenting on them and they capture Crystal and blah blah boring dropped.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur 3. After losing the macguffin to the moon people, Luna gets bullied at school, but then her and Devil save everyone from a fire. Then the Totally Awesome Hulk shows up.
Old Man Logan 1. First Issue. Trapped in the past, Logan has a chance to stop his own horrible future by killing those responsible for it; Mysterio, Red Skull...and Bruce Banner.
Saga 33. The two gay reporters are tracking down Marko and come across The Brand instead. Who got fat. Did I miss something? He's sporting a serious gut now.
Spider-Woman 3. I only got this because they didn't have Sins of the Wreckers 3 and I needed to round up to 12. Jessica is trapped in the black hole maternity hospital being invaded by Skrulls who want to kidnap some Skrull kid who's next in line for the throne. And her water breaks.
Squirrel Girl 4. More completely awesome 1960s time travel adventure with Dr. Doom. This book is seriously MTMTE levels of smart hilarious and everyone should be reading it.
ExX-Men 6. The X-Men travel to Weirdworld(which is Marvel's new Fetch that their trying to make happen) to find Sunfire, who was one of Scott's lieutenants in whatever happened with the Inhumans. And I guess all that stuff that happened in Remender's Uncanny Avengers series got throw out because he's looking human again and not all atomic energyish. But fuck continuity amiright? Even shitty Remender continuity.
Also got four more Deadpool $1 issues; Deadpool #1, Evil Deadpool, Deadpool:The Musical, and Deadpool:The Variants.
DeckardSmith wrote:Daredevil 3. DD and Tenfingers thugs fight the Hand. Matt gets(unfairly) yelled at because his case fell apart and he gets assigned to Night Court. Cue the jokes.
Because Dan Fielding and Bull Shannon are in the supporting cast?
Are they cracking the jokes, or is that the joke itself?

No, he got "demoted" to working Night Court cases because he pissed off the DA by fucking up a big case.
So now it'll "interfere" with him running around at night playing superhero.
"No Tom Foolery today, Ron. I'm tired of looking at your dreadful, speckled mug." "Why do you hurt me in this way, Harry?" ”It’s a grid system motherfucker. Eleven up and one over, you simple bitch.”
13 books this week. I didn't want to round up to 16, but I couldn't quite get back down to 12. I left A-Force and Capt Marvel on the racks though. Two First Issues.
Amazing Spidey 7. Spidey tracks Negative's new lieutenants Cloak&Dagger before they kill a Chinese humanitarian with a hidden past. Regent shows up plays good guy in NYC.
Uncanny Avengers 5. Cable helps the Avs track down the brain of Professor X in Red Skull's head. Rogue, Deadpool, and Johnny Storm run into Gambit instead. But Gambit is really the skull using Chuck's mind powers to trick them. He's up to summat.
Capt America 6. The new Falcon shows up and saves CapWolf and they stop the Serpent Society, but not their Wall Street bank rollers who all get away Scott free because they're "too big to fail".
Contest of Champions 5. The two teams face off for one final battle, and we discover that Stick and Sentry were secretly teaming up(explains how Stick "beat" Sentry last issue) but everyone is double crossed by Maestro and Jake Gallows.
Deadpool:Mercs for Money 1. First Issue. DPs new team fights the Crazy Gang over a crate which is revealed to contain a damaged Recorder robot. Which they then put on the black market for sale.
Doctor Strange 5. Strange's Magic Arsenal is drying up as he tries to fight the magic killing robots or whatever they are. Wong has been using a hidden army of Strange desciples to help reinforce his mojo power.
Guardians of Infinity 3. For the third issue, Guardians of three different eras are teamed up fighting an army of transdimensional robot baddies. I wanted a series starring the OG Guardians and they've been playing second fiddle to the Team Rocket guys. Who already have their own series. Also has a backup story where Thing and Groot visit Yancy St.
Howard the Duck 4. Howard mixes it up with Galactus, Silver Surfer, and various other cosmic Elders of the Universe who all want Howard because he's the new portable Nexus of All Realities.
Iron Man 6. War Machine plays detective in Hong Kong while Victor Von Doom continues to try and help Tony by turning over a new leaf.
Spider-Man 1. First Issue. Miles Morales is in the 616. He stops Blackheart from killing all the Avengers in downtown NYC, which upsets Amazing Spidey for some reason.
Obi-Wan and Ani 2. The Jedi try to make peace with two warring factions on a planet where airships are the preferred mode of transport.
Vision 4. The creepy, excellent series continues. The kids return to school. Virginia confronts her blackmailer and it doesn't end well.
Uncanny X-Men 3. Magneto and Psylocke rescue Triage from the Dark Riders. Xorn declines Monet's offer of sanctuary. Fantomex and Mystique are working for the Hellfire Club now. And Magneto's home base is Genosha. That never ends well for him.
It's a pretty crazy setup. Lewis and Clark were sent not so much to explore the west, but to ascertain the amount of supernatural threat and try to eliminate it. Also Sacagawea (sp?) and her unborn child have some far greater significance than a mere guide (though it's still unclear what).
