What's up with the pathetic remakes of shit

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

Looking at his resume, I realize I've been skipping a lot of hos movies lately because much of what I have seen has been absolute shit.
He'll never reclaim the greatness that is Happy Gilmore of Billy Madison.

Even though people gave it a ton of shit, I actually like Grown Ups. I just wish that it could have been Chris Farley instead of Kevin James, whom the role seems to have been written for.

I've never found Sandler funny. His whole schtick has always been annoying to me. Even his funny movies were funny in spite of him. But most of his stuff is just..ugh. Little Nicky? And then he tried that "semi serious" period where he was doing stuff like Punch Drunk Love and Spanglish and the truly unfunny Funny People. Now he's into that part of his career where his manager and agent are telling him to do the movies he was doing when he was twenty (Jim Carrey seems to be in that same place) and its just pathetic. Y'know Tom Hanks did stuff like Money Pit and Dragnet. Then he moved on.

Sandler has nothing to move on to. After Spanglish I cannot foresee him being offered another romantic comedy (though my wife & daughter LOVE 50 first dates and Wedding Singer). Punch Drunk Love was just too out there. I was really looking forward to it based on Paul Thomas Anderson's previous works, but it was even too weird for me. So was fucking Magnolia, now that we're on Paul Thomas Anderson.... maybe I'm more of a fan of Boogie Nights than I am of him. Interesting.

I had to look up PT Anderson to see what he'd done lately. There Will Be Blood was his last film. The time between his films gets larger with each subsequent film.
He crafts films very well, but there's no joy in them. They're worth watching once, but not owning or repeated viewings.

'just go with it' was also entertaining. the premise was completely ridiculous, but there was actually a great deal of chemistry between sandler and jennifer aniston, if you can believe it. and, y'know, brooklyn decker spends most of the time in a bikini, so, bonus.
Life is short. STUNT IT!

I'm not sure if this falls under the category yet, but they are remaking Total Recall. It is supposed to follow the book more closely. I heard about it on a radio interview today. It was an interview of a guy from Breaking Bad who played the father from Malcom in the Middle (two shows I've heard of but never seen). He's playing Copenhagen. As far as he knows, Arnold isn't making a cameo.

Its scheduled for next summer and it could be pretty good.

Its got an impressive cast: Colin Farrell (in the Arnold role), Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston (the Breaking Bad/Malcolm guy), Jessica Biel and Bill Nighy.
Directed by Len Wiseman (Die Hard 4 and 3 Underworld movies).

It also has a reported budget of close to $200 million, so it'll probably tank.
But one thing will determine the success or failure of this movie: Chicks with three boobs.

If they want to stick to the book, why not use the title of the book? Oh yeah, "Total Recall" is a better name than "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale."

I didn't even know there was a book. And it has been so long since I've seen that movie, I forgot why it was famous...the chick with 3 ta-tas.

Does anybody know the first movie that was made from a TV show? I thought it might be Batman, but I think Dragnet might've been made earlier (the original with Jack Webb, not the shitty comedy with Tom Hanks). Does anyone know if there was an even earlier film made from a TV show?

Incidentally. I was gonna make this into a new topic, then I realized we already had one. Although, some remakes are more shitty and pathetic than others. For every Mission:Impossible there are a bunch of Bewitched and Land of the Losts.

I clicked on an article on Yahoo about Ridley Scott making another Blade Runner movie. Over to the right, there was an ad for the new Conan The Barbarian.

Anyway, this is the begining of the article
Ridley Scott is returning to his roots, revisiting his definitive -- and beloved -- cyberpunk film "Blade Runner," for Alcon Entertainment.

Filmmakers haven't hired a writer yet, and are still figuring out what the story will be, producer Andrew Kosove told TheWrap Thursday.

"This is arguably the greatest science fiction movie ever made and we're not remaking it," he said. "It's a prequel or a sequel."
Alcon secured the rights to "Blade Runner" for prequels, sequels and other projects last March.

They knew then that they wanted Scott to direct.
I don't recall anyone ever calling Blade Runner that before.

I've seen it called "one of the best," but never "arguably the best" sci-fi movies ever.
Its also been called a masterpiece, influential, spectacular and its even been called overrated*.

It's not even the best Harrison Ford sci-fi flick. He was in those obscure movies where he played a smuggler.

the new Apes movie was a lot of fun...I was skeptical from the trailers and also skeptical from the hype it got during the first 2 weeks of reviews...but I found it to be very enjoyable. Oh, and I was rooting for the Apes.
