Isn't that Pullo from Rome?

No worries sir.anarky wrote:If you're interested, I thought A History of Violence lacked any real character definition or development, and had way too many instances where it seemed like important information was cut out. Knocked Up wasn't so much bad as overrated--it's like it couldn't decide whether it was a comedy or a drama. As a comedy, it was hilarious, but the drama bits were pretty slow.
But in the movie's defense, in A History of Violence the character development couldn't, and shouldn't, have been very prominent and defined because it was a big part of the mystique to the film; who is this character? Tom, or Joey? and these other people, referring to Ed Harris, William Hurt, etc. And when it was revealed, you can develop your own idea/reinforce the idea of who you think/know this character is (if that makes sense). The same thing kinda goes with the information being left out as well. Kinda Cronenberg's style; you may have even thought the same thing while viewing Eastern Promises, if you have watched that? (which I thought was awesome btw)
Knocked up is a dramady, but more comedy for me. I just find the movie hilarious and can watch it over and over and over.
Just my opinions of course.

Oh yeah, and Maria Bello is hot!
"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."
Re: Punisher/Hulk sequ...reboots
BTW - The only thing I did not like about Knocked Up was that Katherine Heigl was forever having sex with her bra on all the damn time; this made absolutely no sense to me and made the "sex" scenes completely unrealistic.

Surprise, surprise...it doesn't suck. Funny, huh? I'm not saying it's an amazing movie, but it's worth a watch. I'm not saying run out to see it in theaters, either. My point is don't avoid it.UKWildcat wrote:Be sure to let us know how much it sucks GG.
I will say it's a better movie than Ang Lee's Hulk. While I didn't hate that movie, this one just does the character so much more justice. I will say that Ed Norton makes a better Bruce Banner than Eric Bana did, but I do prefer Jennifer Connelly's and Sam Elliott's portrayals of the Ross family to Liv Tyler and William Hurt. Not that they did a bad job, it's just a matter of preference. But I will say that Tim Roth plays a much better villain than the drunk beach bum that Nick Nolte was. Tim Roth shoots a fucking dog in the movie. How much more evil can you get? And there was a particularly cool part where Hulk kicks his ass into a tree. They did foreshadow stuff like The Leader, and the Avengers of course. Tony Stark showing up was one of the best parts of the movie. Did I mention I'm really liking the direction Marvel is taking with the Avengers?
As far as this year's summer movies go, "Iron Man" is still on top for me, but I did enjoy Hulk a lot more that Indy 4.
And to that Punisher trailer I say "BRING BACK THOMAS JANE, GODDAMNIT".

i saw a preview vid online of his fight with hulk when he's still human... or at least LOOKS human - he still has super-human powers, apparently. i thought it looked rather ridiculous for a human to go up against the hulk and not get hurt...Double_G wrote:But I will say that Tim Roth plays a much better villain than the drunk beach bum that Nick Nolte was.

Re: Punisher/Hulk sequ...reboots
But, GG, what if you really liked Ang Lee's Hulk?
I'll admit that part of my aversion to this movie is the utter lack of professionalism that went into the making and the decision to do a reboot. Hulk wasn't Batman & Robin or Superman IV, which destroyed an existing franchise. It was a new attempt. Had anyone said, "The first one was good, but it didn't do as well as we hoped, so we're trying something new," I could get behind it. But, no, they said, "This one will be completely different. It's going to be good." That's a level of second grade one-upmanship that doesn't belong in any professional field. My $10 might not make a difference, but I feel like sending them a statement to not diss talented directors and crew and diminish their efforts simply because the movie didn't perform up to their expectations.

To answer your question, just because you really liked Ang Lee's Hulk doesn't mean you'll hate this movie. If you like the Hulk then you will like this movie. I will agree with you that it was unprofessional of them to market it the way they did (showing disrespect to the 2003 film), but I'm blaming that on Marvel producer Avi Arad. This is also the guy who rushed Sam Raimi on "Spider-Man 3", so I'd say he's a good scapegoat.anarky wrote:But, GG, what if you really liked Ang Lee's Hulk?

Re: Punisher/Hulk sequ...reboots
Read this elsewhere:
Hulk's dad worked on the Captain America serum. Iron Man's dad worked on the shield. Both of these guys wound up with super powers. Iron Man used the shield as a prototype for his armor. And then Hulk finds Captain America in the Arctic?
That's pushing it way beyond the limits of plausibility there....
Okay, it's one thing to do an Avengers movie and set it up beforehand. But isn't this getting to a level of coincidence that makes the Star Wars prequels look totally believable?...a cut scene in the arctic where we get a glimpse of Captain America frozen in ice. They should have kept that in, would have been a nice connection to the 2011 Cap movie.

Re: Punisher/Hulk sequ...reboots
seriously, this is tantamount to marvel EU - it's never directly addressed in the movie, so it's just fanfic. marvel-sanctioned and written fanfic, but that's what it amounts to. if they never allude to it in the movies themselves, then no bother. if it comes up, yes, it will seem a bit far-fetched, but i'll choose to ignore it and enjoy the rest of what i'm watching.anarky wrote:Iron Man used the shield as a prototype for his armor.

Re: Punisher/Hulk sequ...reboots
Yeah, I know that. But Marvel states it was put in for that reason (even though not specifically addressed in the film), so my point is they're trying for all these stupid coincidences.
Stan Lee and George Lucas working together for two months couldn't come up with that many farfetched coincidences.

Re: Punisher/Hulk sequ...reboots
Liv Tyler was on Regis this morning promoting Hulk. They show a serious clip that laugh out loud funny.
Bruce and Betty are standing on the open back end of a helicopter, and as Bruce is about to jump (to go after the bad guy I assume) Betty stops him and says something like "But you might not change!" Bruce replies with "Maybe not, but I need to try" then falls backwards out of the helicopter. As Bruce falls he's either shitting his pants pr trying to force the Hulk to emerge (because jumping out of a plane makes you angry...). All of a sudden he realizes it ain't working and and says "Oh shit!" I couldn't help but laugh, as if he should have held up a sign that said "Yipes!" ala Wile E. Coyote. When he slams into (and through) the street, but instead of splattering all over the ground, Hulk's hand pops out of the rubble (which means being a dumbass, rather than getting angry, turns you into Hulk).
I may have to see this movie for the sheer comedy of it.

I was at a bar last night and talked with a couple of guys who had just walked out of the theater because they thought The Incredible Hulk was terrible.

WHO WONTS TO HERE A FUNNAY ASS JOKE???
"The Incredible Hulk" made less in its opening weekend ($54 million) than Ang Lee's "Hulk" did ($62 million). However, this one did score much higher with critics (save for Roger Ebert and a few others), so it's hard to tell if Marvel will consider this one a success. I guess it doesn't even matter in the end, as it's all building up towards "The Avengers".
