The A list...

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

The A list...

Post by Eternal Padawan »

I have 500+ DVDs. i said i was going to start another topic in here, because,, frankly, how much effort can one person spend on Master of Disguise?

So I looked at my extensive list of DVDs and the very first one is the double disc edition of James Cameron's The Abyss. After we've talked about that one for awhile, I'll go onto the next A movie I have until they are talked about. then I'll start up a "The B list"

So here we go...

The Abyss- I really liked this film. It's full of memorable characters and it's a fairly interesting plot. I appreciated that they restored the extra scenes for this version. There's plenty of documentary footage also. A great disc.

the abyss is awesome. the extended scenes make it (favorite pun) [snicker]a much deeper movie.[/snicker]

a much better movie set in water from james cameron than titanic. (god damn that movie...) the submarine crash at the beginning is amazing, as well...

Wait, Wait. I want to talk about the Abyss first. "You never backed away from anything in your life, now fight, FIGHT!" Man, Ed Harris is awesome. That movie is one of those movies I could just watch a bunch of times and not get sick of. Even Chris Elliot is in it...awesome. There was so much extra stuff on those discs, I had trouble getting through it. I would love to visit where they filmed it, and apparantly where that stuff still sits.

American Beauty-- The Academy Award winner deserved every award it recieved. I can watch this film over and over and find something new everytime I watch it. Brilliant.

One of the best movies I have ever seen. Kevin Spacey waiting for his drink at the bar during Annette Bening's work schmooze is the best shot...perfect. Willie Loman's revenge.

yep, this and the abyss i can really get behind in the a list so far... this movie is so amazing - looking further into the "normal" suburban world than anyone really would like to...

Ok...next on the list is Ass Bandits III Not exactly a compliment to it's late 80's predecessors, yet delivers enough raucous anal action to keep Russle the Love Muscle spackling the room for hours. I give it a 3/4 erection.

HELLO? there's a whole forum dedicated to porn... [crazed]

good to see you here!

anyway, american history x is amazing. i've only been able to watch it once. i watched it all the way through, couldn't get off the couch to turn it off, just watched the credits roll, and then the tape ended and turned off and started to rewind automatically. i've never had that happen before. that movie was just so powerful, i don't think i can ever watch it again...

Ah yes, I definately agree. American History X is killer. I have it on DVD as well. Also, it delivers enough raucous anal action to keep Russle the Love Muscle spackling the room for hours. I give it a full erection.

I guess I'm too depressed most of the time, I can't really watch "real" movies anymore...
I still like robots and ultraman and kung fu, though... ever seen "the dragon on fire"? no plot, 3 count em three guys named bruce lee (all spelled different, natch), and all fighting... the good guys even fight each other constantly, just to fill in space when there's no bad guys.
Rollo, amazon women is damn funny.. the parody of the 50s sci fi kills me every time, it is exactly like them old hammer films... I loove those old "total disregard for science/reality" films...

No, better put it back, but the SEDIMENT is appreciated!!
I just wanted to ask, has anyone here seen "shogun assasin", the filmic adaptation of lone wolf and cub?? It's 2 films sorta cut together, but it's awesome, there's so much dismemberment and there's real ninjas and everything, I'm sure all of the members would like it (even yours, Howdy!!)

Next up is a controversial film that eveyone despises, but I love it's over the top campness...

Armageddon has larger than life characters and a premise so absurd the film never really takes itself seriously ( unlike Deep Impact). I dig this movie so much I actually have two DVDs. The original no frills Disney version and the two disc Criterion version. Which, if you ever get the chance, listen to Ben Afflecks commentary track. Actually, listen to ANY Ben Affleck commentary track. His dry self deprecating humor as he roasts his own films is hilarious. So there. I've said it. I'm a big Armageddon fan. In fact, I may go watch it right now.

And another film that nobody else likes ( well, normal people anyway. I bet everybody here thinks it's....GROOVY.)

Army of Darkness. Bruce Cambell is the BOMB. Read his autobiography "If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B movie actor" The Evil Dead trilogy is sweet. But this is the first one I saw in the theatres. I saw it opening nite, midnight showing and I had no idea. It was sold out and everyone in the audience was buzzing. Cheers erupted when Ash showed up onscreen. And when he said "Groovy." FORGET IT! The audience went WILD. Anyway, this is one of the most quotable movies of all time. And like Armageddon, I have two copies on DVD. The meek Universal offering and the sweet Anchor Bay 2 disc set ( The first one, this movie has been rereleased so many times on DVD, I've lost count.)

GROOVY.
